Europe and Ukraine Present Counteroffer to Russia Amid Peace Talks

In a significant development, European countries and Ukraine have proposed a counteroffer to Russia regarding a peace agreement. The proposal suggests that if Ukraine cedes territory to Russia, Russia should reciprocate by ceding an equivalent area to Ukraine. This comes ahead of a crucial meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska, where a potential peace deal will be discussed.

Europe and Ukraine Present Counteroffer to Russia

Another twist has occurred in the ongoing discussions about a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Several European countries and Ukraine have now put forward a counteroffer to Russia, reports the Wall Street Journal. If Ukraine is to cede territory to Russia, then Russia should do the same for Ukraine.

The proposal was presented at today's emergency meeting in the UK, attended by European, Ukrainian, and American officials.

The meeting was held in anticipation of the planned meeting between Trump and Putin, set to take place in Alaska next week. According to leaked information, they are expected to discuss a potential peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, where Russia would gain large occupied territories. Axios reports that Putin, in a meeting with the US envoy Steve Witkoff earlier this week, offered to end the war on the condition that Ukraine relinquishes Crimea and the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk.

Ukraine Must Be Involved, Says Ulf Kristersson

Sweden's Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson writes on X that he is in close contact with his colleagues in the coalition for Ukraine. He adds that Sweden supports efforts to end Russia's aggressive war.

"It is essential that a just and lasting peace is negotiated with Ukraine at the table. And there can be no real peace without respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," he writes.

Ukraine Rejects Proposals

The US has also attempted to persuade Ukraine to give up territories to reach a new peace agreement. Such an agreement would freeze the front lines in the war and solidify Russia's occupation of several Ukrainian territories.

Ukraine itself has rejected these proposals. One objection has been that it would be a major victory for Russia and Vladimir Putin.
