Emergency Landing at Arlanda: Norwegian Flight Experiences Tire Explosion

A flight from Stockholm to Paris was forced to make an emergency landing at Arlanda Airport after reports of a tire explosion.

Reports have emerged of a tire explosion on a Norwegian passenger plane at Arlanda.

– During takeoff, a tire explosion occurred. Some tire debris was found on the runway, and the plane is now circling over Arlanda. A 'fly by' is being conducted to assess the landing approach, says Sara Eriksson, press officer at the Maritime and Air Rescue Center (JRCC).

– It's difficult to speculate on the severity of this incident. We take all such events seriously. It's not very common, she adds.

Norwegian: “Technical Issue”

The plane was en route to Paris but had to circle over the airport after the tire explosion. There are 181 passengers on board.

– The plane took off as planned. However, once airborne, the pilot had to turn back to Arlanda due to technical problems, says Elina Skari, spokesperson for Norwegian.

An operation is underway with police, ambulance, and rescue services on site.

The plane has now performed a so-called fly-by, flying at low altitude over the runway for inspection.

– During the fly-by, it was observed that a tire is damaged, and preparations are now being made for a 'hard landing', says Elina Skari.

Shortly after 11 o'clock, the plane was able to land, and everything reportedly went well.

– I understand it might feel unsettling, but the landing occurred without drama, says Charlotte Holmbergh, communications director at Norwegian.

A person at Arlanda witnessed the plane's takeoff and the subsequent queue.

— The planes were redirected to another runway, and vehicles went out to inspect the runway, the person says.
