Drone Alerts Disrupt Air Traffic in Copenhagen and Oslo

Drone activity disrupted air traffic in both Copenhagen and Oslo on Monday evening. At Kastrup Airport, no planes were allowed to land or take off for several hours, resulting in significant delays. In Oslo, air traffic was initially moved to one runway before all operations were halted.

"The airspace over Oslo Airport is closed due to a new drone sighting," said the airport's communications manager, Monica Fasting, to VG.

At 8:30 PM, air traffic at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport was completely shut down. The reason was the sighting of two or three unidentified drones in the area. A large number of police units, including helicopters, were dispatched to the airport.

"We have a massive operation in place," said Henrik Stormer of the Copenhagen police to the news agency Ritzau.

The drone alert led to significant delays. Flights scheduled to land at Kastrup were redirected to nearby airports—primarily Billund and Aalborg, but also to Malmö and Landvetter.

Air traffic at Kastrup resumed at 12:45 AM, according to Ekstra Bladet.

"Unable to Locate Drone Operator"

Just before midnight, police were alerted to Oslo Airport after a drone was observed in the area.

"We have taken measures to try to locate the drone, but we have not yet succeeded in finding the drone operator. We currently do not see the incident at Oslo Airport as directly related to anything else," said Gisle Sveen of the Oslo police to NRK.

For safety reasons, air traffic was initially redirected to one runway. At 12:30 AM, all air traffic was completely shut down, according to VG.

"Planes are circling over Oslo waiting to be redirected to other airports. They are being redirected to the nearest airport," said Monica Fasting, the airport's communications manager, to the newspaper.

Two foreign nationals were arrested earlier in the evening in Oslo after flying drones over a restricted zone at the military area Akershus Fortress.
