Two people have been struck by a car outside the Royal Palace in Stockholm's Old Town. The individuals are seriously injured and have been taken to the hospital by ambulance. Following the incident, the driver was apprehended by the police.
"We see it as an isolated incident and we have control over the driver," says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.
The alarm was raised to emergency services at 4:30 PM on Saturday, reporting that several people had been hit by a car at a pedestrian crossing in Stockholm's Old Town.
Police, ambulance, and rescue services are on the scene outside the Royal Palace to assist the injured individuals.
According to the police, it is not believed to be a deliberate act.
"We see it as an isolated incident and we have control over the driver," says police spokesperson Mats Eriksson.
Witness: Several Helped to Rescue the Woman
A man working nearby told Expressen how he heard a loud bang and several screams.
"I ran across the street and saw a woman under the car. Several of us helped lift the car to get her out."
Next to the car lay another injured person, he says.
"It was not pleasant to see at all. It's quite tragic."
