Driver Arrested After Fatal Accident in Stockholm's Old Town

A man in his 80s has been arrested on suspicion of causing another's death after a traffic accident at Slottsbacken in Stockholm's Old Town.

At 4:30 PM on Saturday, police were alerted that several people had been hit at a pedestrian crossing near the Royal Palace in Stockholm.

Two individuals were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Later that evening, police announced that one of them, a woman in her 40s, had died.

According to the police, it appears to be an accident, with no evidence suggesting it was an intentional act.

"The incident will be investigated, but I have no information indicating the driver suffered a medical condition," said police spokesperson Per Fahlström.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing another's death, gross bodily harm, and gross negligence in traffic.

The car has been seized for examination.
