Driver Arrested After Crashing into Family in Malmö
The driver of the car that struck several people in Malmö has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The young girl who was seriously injured remains hospitalized, but her condition is stable.
"It could have been much worse," says Göran Holmgren, community police officer.
Late Thursday afternoon, a car drove into a family on a sidewalk in central Malmö.
The driver, a man in his 20s, is now in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.
"This is for investigative reasons, and the charges may change," says Göran Holmgren.
According to Region Skåne, a girl under 10 years old was seriously injured. As of Friday morning, she was still receiving hospital care, but her condition is stable, according to the police. A two-year-old girl and two women were also slightly injured.
The police's initial assessment after speaking with witnesses was that it was not an intentional act. However, the investigation is ongoing to determine the sequence of events, and the police are seeking more witness statements or footage from the scene.
"It's miraculous that it wasn't worse. It's near a bus stop, and he completely lost control of the car. It could have been much worse," says Göran Holmgren.
