Dramatic Rescue: Man Saved from Deep Quarry in Limhamn
A call for help from the Limhamn quarry triggered a major rescue operation on Sunday evening. A man was found injured 15 meters down on a hard-to-reach ledge.
After a prolonged and complicated effort, the man was lifted out and taken to the hospital.
The alarm was raised just before 9:30 PM on Sunday. Several people heard someone calling for help from the Limhamn quarry. The rescue service launched a major operation at the site, including personnel from Höganäs specialized in climbing, reports Sydsvenskan. However, locating the man took over an hour.
A member of the rescue team managed to climb down to the man and confirmed he had injured his foot.
"We found the person on a hard-to-reach ledge in the quarry," said incident commander Joakim Ilrud to Sydsvenskan.
The difficulties were not over. A prolonged rescue operation ensued.
"A strategy has been decided here, and we will get the person up from the pit to the cycle path where ambulance personnel will take over. It takes the time it takes, and it's a bit complicated," explained Mats Streer to the newspaper.
Shortly after 1 AM—almost four hours after the initial alarm—the rescue service confirmed that they had successfully lifted the man and that he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. His condition was unclear at that time.
