Dragomir Mrsic Deletes Instagram Photo After Controversial Gesture

Dragomir Mrsic made the controversial 'Three-Finger Salute' in an Instagram photo.

Dragomir 'Gago' Mrsic is an actor best known as the host of TV4's 'Förrädarna'.

Recently, he posted a photo on Instagram making the three-finger gesture, symbolizing the Christian Trinity.

This sparked reactions on social media.

The gesture is known for its association with Serbian nationalists and paramilitary groups during World War II and the Balkan Wars of the 1990s.

"It's a controversial gesture and a provocative symbol that all adult Serbs know exactly what it means," says Sanimir Resic, a Balkan expert and associate professor at Lund University.

Mrsic himself says that for him, the gesture represents the Trinity and nothing else.

"It's the Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Period," he told Expressen.

Are you aware that it has also been used in Serbian nationalist circles?

"I've heard that, but for me, it has nothing to do with anything like that. You can only stand for what you yourself believe. I have Muslims married into my family, I have Croats, I am from Bosnia myself.

"I learned it when I was 5-6 years old in a church where I was baptized, it's the Trinity for me, it has nothing to do with anything else. It's really a nice thing," Mrsic continues.

"Spreading Love"

For Balkan expert Sanimir Resic, it seems unlikely that Mrsic is unaware of the strong emotions associated with the gesture.

"He knows very well that all non-Serbs from the former Yugoslavia see it as an extremely provocative gesture. It's like sticking it in their faces. Over and over again during both World War II and the wars in the 90s, it was something Serbian soldiers and paramilitary groups could flaunt and show to their victims, their prisoners in concentration camps."

After reactions on social media, Mrsic deleted the photo.

"It's sad when people perceive things negatively. Negativity is not something you want to spread. You want to spread joy and love. And that's why it said under the picture something like 'I love you all'."
