David Beckham and Gary Oldman Knighted by King Charles

The ranks of knights at King Charles's round table continue to grow. Now, English football icon David Beckham can join the ranks of those who can call themselves "Sir."

Alongside actor Gary Oldman, rock star Roger Daltrey, and singer Elaine Paige, Beckham was knighted by King Charles during a ceremony at St James's Palace in London on Friday, reports BBC.

A total of 19 men and 21 women were knighted for their contributions in their respective fields and can now be titled "Sir" and "Dame."

Swedish-born Hans Kristian Rausing and Lisbet Rausing can also now be titled "Sir" and "Dame." The siblings are grandchildren of Tetra Pak founder Ruben Rausing. Large parts of the Rausing family, one of Sweden's wealthiest, reside in the UK.

Charles bestows these honors twice a year: in conjunction with New Year and during the celebration of his birthday, which takes place in June.

In June, a total of 1,200 people were recognized in the British Empire Order, which has five different grades. 48% of these are women. The youngest recipient was 11 years old and the oldest 106.
