Daring Escape: Two Inmates Flee Borås Prison
Two men climbed over several fences at the Borås correctional facility and successfully escaped. Both are convicted criminals serving lengthy prison sentences. As of 3 PM on Sunday, the men remain at large.
The alarm about the escape was received at 8:48 AM on Sunday morning.
– As soon as it was clear that the men had left the premises, we were alerted, says police spokesperson Christian Brattgård.
The men reportedly escaped from a courtyard within the prison area by climbing over several fences.
They are in their mid-20s and 30s, both serving multi-year prison sentences. The younger man is convicted of incitement to or aiding and abetting serious violent crimes. The other man is convicted of arson.
Dressed in Green Tracksuits
The escapees were wearing green tracksuits from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service when they fled the facility. An intensive police search was launched, including helicopter surveillance for the two men.
At 2:40 PM, the police announced they were scaling back the search and entering a surveillance phase. They are appealing for tips from the public but urge caution if encountering the men.
– There is no concrete danger to the public, but if you see them, do not intervene yourself; instead, call 112, says Christian Brattgård.
