Daniel Svensson Crowned Bundesliga's Top Fullback

Daniel Svensson has been ranked as the best fullback in the Bundesliga.

Kicker's reporters and editors evaluate the performances of Bundesliga players every six months, applying strict criteria.

"The reporters apply strict standards to the rankings. Quality takes precedence over quantity; mediocrity has no place here. National class, the lowest level in the ranking, still means being among the best, most prominent players in their respective positions," they write on their website.

At the top, we find a true Swedish sensation. Daniel Svensson, Dortmund's winter signing, tops the list of the best fullbacks in the league during the spring.

"This is my home, and I really enjoy being here," he said when he signed a four-year contract with the club.

In his first months in Germany, he has outperformed names like Bayern's Canadian star Alphonso Davies and Leipzig's experienced German international David Raum.

"The 23-year-old was very stable in defense and is also very active. Twice he was noted for the best running value of the round, and in the last six matches, he was always among the top five in the league in that statistic. Towards the end of the season, the Swedish international also became bolder in offense, collecting his first four points (one goal, three assists) in the last five rounds," writes Kicker.

"Daniel has met our expectations from day one. He quickly integrated and immediately enriched our team with his performances," says Dortmund's sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Weak Season End – No World-Class Players

The ranking consists of three classes: World class, international class, and national class. Compared to last autumn, the number of players in the highest category has gone from four to zero. Kicker argues that the German clubs have been far too poor on the international stage.

"The debate doesn't last long; according to Kicker reporters, no one is world-class. Only Dortmund's Serhou Guirassy is briefly mentioned before being dismissed, despite his goals in the Champions League. Fifteen Bundesliga goals and seven in the Champions League are undoubtedly a good result, but not world-class," writes Kicker.

Daniel Svensson has played three matches for the Swedish national team and most recently started at home against Algeria.
