Crown Prince Haakon Speaks Out on Charges Against Stepson Marius

Stepson Marius Borg Høiby faces charges for 32 crimes, including several rapes. Now, Crown Prince Haakon comments on the case. – It's difficult for everyone involved, he says.

On Monday, prosecutors announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit's eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby, 28, is charged with dozens of crimes.

Among the charges are four counts of rape, severe domestic abuse, assault, and sexual harassment.

Tuesday marks Crown Princess Mette-Marit's birthday.

However, Crown Prince Haakon is not at home at the Skaugum estate but at a fish farming fair in Trondheim, where he comments on the charges against his stepson.

– Now it is clear what the charges are, and the legal process will proceed. The court will ultimately decide the outcome, he says.

"Challenging for Everyone"

Crown Prince Haakon adds that he will not answer questions about the charges themselves.

– When it comes to us [in the family], we continue to carry out our duties as best we can.

When asked how it feels to experience this as a family, the Crown Prince responds:

– Everyone involved in this matter finds it challenging and difficult, he says.

When the Crown Prince couple got together, Marius was only two years old and has been an official part of the royal family since he was four, when Haakon and Mette-Marit married.
