Court Upholds Verdict Against Marek Rokosz for Murder and Body Burning
A 34-year-old man was shot dead and his body burned while attempting to collect a debt. The Court of Appeal has now upheld the verdict against Marek Rokosz.
Late on Christmas Eve, the 34-year-old and a friend went to a residence in Hindås to demand repayment for a car repair. They were armed with baseball bats. As soon as they reached the doorway, they were shot at— the 34-year-old was hit in the head and died instantly. Several shots were also fired at his friend, who managed to escape.
The shooter, Marek Rokosz, 42, was sentenced by the district court to 18 years in prison and deportation for murder and aggravated desecration of a grave.
After the incident, the victim's body was loaded into a car and burned at a bathing site in Bollebygd. An accomplice was sentenced to three years in prison and deportation for aggravated desecration of a grave. Another man was convicted of aggravated protection of a criminal.
Court of Appeal's Verdict
Rokosz admitted parts of the incident but denied the crime, claiming the fatal shot was fired accidentally, a claim the district court did not believe.
The court found it evident that the murder was committed with intent, partly because Rokosz did not alert the police and showed no remorse.
The case has now been reviewed by the Court of Appeal, which also concluded that the murder was intentional and upheld the verdict.
