Court Reduces Life Sentence for Borås Murderer Abdihalim Hasan

Abdihalim Hasan was sentenced to life imprisonment in April for the murder of a man from the same gang. The verdict was appealed, and on Friday, the Court of Appeal decided to reduce the sentence from life to 18 years in prison.

In April, Abdihalim Hasan, 21, shot and killed a 26-year-old man from the same criminal gang. He was convicted by the district court, despite his denial, to life imprisonment for murder and serious weapons offenses. Hasan denied the murder charges but admitted to the serious weapons offense.

The verdict was appealed, and on Friday, the Court of Appeal decided to change the sentence so that the 21-year-old receives a fixed-term sentence of 18 years.

"Overall, the act is not so severely qualified that the penalty value corresponds to life imprisonment. However, the clearly aggravating circumstances justify a penalty value equivalent to the most severe fixed-term sentence, i.e., 18 years in prison," the Court of Appeal wrote in the judgment.

Another man was simultaneously sentenced to five years in prison for serious weapons offenses, drug offenses, and serious protection of a criminal. The Court of Appeal decided to increase his sentence by an additional six months.

Victim Sought Exit Program

The victim was a 26-year-old man whom the police linked to both minor and serious crimes over the past eight years. Hasan and the victim were members of the same criminal gang in the Borås district of Norrby. A conflict with another criminal gang in the city led the 26-year-old to seek the region's exit program last year.

Despite this, the police suspect that the attack came from within: the 26-year-old was killed by one of his own.
