A woman who was denied financial aid for Ozempic has now won her case in the administrative court.
The weight-loss medication Ozempic is becoming increasingly popular but is typically not covered by the high-cost protection scheme.
In April 2025, the Labor Market and Social Committee in Malmö Municipality decided to reject a woman's application for financial aid for the weight-loss medication, which cost 1,049 SEK per month.
The committee emphasized that Ozempic is not included in the pharmaceutical benefits, and that aid for such medications should only be granted in exceptional situations where there are very strong reasons.
Court Rules in Favor – Deemed Necessary
While the committee did not find the reasons compelling enough, the administrative court in Malmö disagreed and has now granted the woman the aid. This was reported by Dagens Juridik.
The investigation revealed that the woman is overweight and has unsuccessfully tried to lose weight through various methods, including gastric surgery and other medications. Since no other methods worked, the administrative court determined that Ozempic is necessary for the woman's health in this case. Therefore, the appeal should be granted.
