Court Employee Arrested for Child Pornography Offenses

A court employee in central Sweden has been arrested for child pornography offenses. He has also been a coach for a girls' team.

We have no possibility to dismiss him, says a chief judge to Södermanlands Nyheter.

The man has been in custody since early September, suspected of two counts of child pornography offenses and one count of sexual exploitation of a child.

According to SN, the man works at a district court in central Sweden and has also been a coach for a girls' team.

The suspect is said to have confessed to one count of child pornography offense during interrogation but denies the other two charges.

He was discovered through an online surveillance operation, and due to his employment at the court, there is a conflict of interest, which means the case will be decided in a district court in another city.

Previously Suspected

The man has previously been suspected of child pornography offenses. He was charged in 2006 for a serious child pornography offense, which he confessed to in 2011. During that time, the crimes became statute-barred, and therefore the charges were dismissed.

Despite his previous suspicions, the court has not been able to verify this.

The court has only been able to conduct searches on staff since June this year, and only for new hires.

“No Possibility to Dismiss Him”

The man still retains his employment.

– We have no possibility to dismiss him. A personnel case has been opened, but I must wait for more information before making any decision, says a chief judge at the district court to SN.

The girls' team reportedly held a board meeting where the coach was immediately suspended.

– There is no indication that any crime has been committed in our operations. We have ensured that the person has not been in the dressing room with the association's children, says the association's chairman.
