Controversy Surrounds Melinda Jacobs' Role in Lilla Hjärtats Vänförening

Lilla Hjärtats Vänförening: Jacobs Has Not Resigned

Following a conflict with the board, Melinda Jacobs announced her departure as chairperson of Lilla Hjärtats Vänförening. However, the board disputes this claim.

The tragic death of three-year-old Esmeralda in 2020, for which her mother was convicted of manslaughter, spurred significant advocacy for children's rights.

Esmeralda's foster mother, Melinda Jacobs, 41, founded the non-profit Lilla Hjärtats Vänförening to support foster children.

Recently, the organization has been shaken by a conflict where the board accuses Jacobs of selling commercial products for personal gain using the 'Lilla Hjärtat' brand.

A few weeks ago, Melinda Jacobs told Expressen she was leaving the organization.

"After the board's deliberation, they chose to proceed without me. Therefore, I am now leaving my position. It is a decision I, of course, respect, but it pains me deeply," she wrote.

Board: She Has Not Resigned

Now, the board of Lilla Hjärtats Vänförening has written an open letter.

"Melinda Jacobs has stated in the media that she has resigned as chairperson, which her legal representative has also confirmed publicly. This is not true. Melinda Jacobs has not submitted a written resignation to the board, which she is required to do according to the association's bylaws," they state.

Instead, they write, Melinda Jacobs has demanded that several other board members resign. Otherwise, she wants the organization to dissolve. Alternatively, she will resign only if she retains the right to use the name Lilla Hjärtat, according to the board.

"We also distance ourselves from the trademark application that Melinda Jacobs has submitted to the PRV in her own name, aiming to trademark Lilla Hjärtat for commercial use," they add.

"Only Wanted to Do Good"

Melinda Jacobs' lawyer, Monica Crusner, previously commented:

"Melinda strongly opposes the notion that she has exploited Esmeralda's name, nickname, or memory in any way. She has only wanted to do good for vulnerable children and has never intended to use any of these for personal gain. She is extremely concerned that Esmeralda's nickname is preserved with dignity."

Expressen has sought Melinda Jacobs for comment.
