Controversial Performance: Kneecap Criticizes Swedish Government at Way Out West
Today, the Northern Irish group Kneecap, known for its sharp criticism and alleged support for terrorist organizations Hamas and Hezbollah, performed at Way Out West. From the stage, they criticized the Swedish government.
"The Swedish government is complicit," said one of the band members from the stage.
During the performance, a message appeared on the screens stating: "Over 80,000 people have been killed by Israel in 21 months, enabled by the Swedish government."
The audience chanted "Free Palestine" and many waved Palestinian flags.
Calls for Cancellation
The group's participation at Way Out West has faced strong criticism, particularly for their open support of terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah.
Three conservative politicians from Gothenburg have previously demanded the performance be canceled.
"If they allow them to perform at Way Out West, we will consider withdrawing funding entirely. We will have a very strong discussion about this," Marie Zachrisson (L) previously told GP.
One of the members is himself suspected of terrorism after waving a Hezbollah flag during a concert in the UK.
Kneecap has denied supporting Hamas or Hezbollah, stating that they use exaggeration and satire in their performances.
Way Out West organizer Luger commented to TT that the festival "strives to be a platform where different opinions can be expressed in a non-polarizing way. Artistic freedom will always be very important to us."
