Clinic Criticized for Leaving Half a Kilo of Bandage in Woman's Body

A woman underwent a C-section and was bandaged to stop bleeding. However, the bandage was forgotten inside her body. The clinic is now facing criticism from the Health and Social Care Inspectorate, Ivo, for leaving "half a kilo of bandage" in the woman's body.

The woman had a C-section in the summer of 2022 and suffered severe bleeding. To stop the bleeding, hospital staff inserted a compression balloon in the uterus and two surgical drapes in the vagina, reports news agency Siren.

When the woman left the clinic after a few days of care, the bandage was still inside her.

It was only when the woman herself noticed something was wrong that the mistake was discovered.

"Lost Trust"

In her report to Ivo, the woman writes: "I was examined by a gynecologist who found half a kilo of forgotten bandage."

She continues: "The gynecologist said, 'What would have happened if it was there for a month?' I believe it would have been a disaster!"

The woman states that she has "lost trust in healthcare" after the incident.

Ivo is now criticizing the women's clinic for leaving the surgical drape in the woman. The case is closed, but Ivo may follow up on any measures the clinic has implemented due to the oversight.
