Church Candidate Detained for Serious Drug Offenses

A woman running for the non-political group in the Church of Sweden is currently detained for serious drug offenses. Police raided her home in the spring and seized 6.5 kilos of cannabis and cocaine, reports P4.

She is a candidate for the non-political group in the Church of Sweden, Posk, for the church council in a parish in the Stockholm area.

– This comes as more or less a shock – we were not aware of it, and therefore she remains on the list, says the chairperson of her local association to the radio.

P4 has reviewed the approximately 25,000 people listed for the church election. Ninety candidates have been convicted of crimes from January 1, 2023, onwards or are suspected in ongoing criminal investigations.

S-Candidate Hid Weapons for Network

Among the convictions are serious weapons offenses, attempted rape, embezzlement, and child pornography offenses.

On one of the Social Democrats' lists in Stockholm, there is a man who was convicted of serious weapons offenses after hiding a weapon for a criminal network.

– We take this particularly seriously, says the S-chairperson in the candidate's home municipality.

The man has resigned from his position after Sveriges Radio questioned his candidacy.
