Cheese Recall in Sweden After Deadly Listeria Outbreak

Two cheese products – a brie and a camembert – named Mon Ami are now being recalled in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

The recall is due to suspected contamination with the listeria bacteria, reports the Danish food company Uhrenholt in a press release, according to the news agency Ritzau.

Two people died and at least 19 others were infected earlier this week by listeria in France.

The French health department is investigating a possible link between the deaths, illnesses, and the consumption of the cheese that has already been recalled. The cheese is from the French cheese manufacturer Chavegrand, which has therefore recalled a range of products in France.

For safety reasons, all products produced by Chavegrand before June 23 will now also be recalled in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.

People who have eaten the cheese and have developed fever, headache, and muscle pain are advised to contact healthcare services, according to the news channel France Info. The cheeses involved include camembert, brie, and chèvre sold in stores like Lidl and U across France.
