Former Justice Minister Beatrice Ask, 69, is looking to make a comeback in the Swedish Parliament. "Politics is chaotic both at home and globally, so no one can really sit back," she writes.

Beatrice Ask stepped down as the governor of Södermanland this spring after five years in the role. Now, the former minister hopes to secure a winnable spot on the Moderates' parliamentary list in Stockholm.

She announced her candidacy in a Facebook post:

"Defending people's freedom and democracy is crucial. Moreover, there are many aspects of our daily lives where public services should and can function better. The list is long! It's time to focus on the reality of individuals. There's too much groupthink. I'll return to this," writes Beatrice Ask.

Before the lists are finalized, an internal nomination process with interviews and primaries awaits.

"I have great respect for this. But I hope that my commitment, experience, and knowledge will gain support and be beneficial," Ask continues.

Beatrice Ask served as the Minister of Schools in Carl Bildt's government from 1991 to 1994 and as the Minister of Justice in Fredrik Reinfeldt's government from 2006 to 2014. She was the senior member of parliament in 2018, having served the longest at that time.
