Böda Sand, a popular holiday destination on Öland, faced a gastroenteritis outbreak affecting several guests. The outbreak, likely caused by the rotavirus, seems to be under control now. The resort has taken extra precautions, including increased cleaning and sanitation measures, to prevent further spread.

Böda Sand Implements Measures After Gastroenteritis Outbreak
The holiday at Böda Sand ended in gastroenteritis for several guests. Now, the outbreak seems to be almost over. Böda Sand has, however, taken extra measures to prevent the spread, reports Ölandsbladet.
Several people fell ill after visiting the water park at Böda Sand on Öland. Last week, Region Kalmar received between five and ten patients with gastroenteritis linked to the holiday resort.
It is likely the common rotavirus behind the outbreak, according to infectious disease specialist Per-Åke Jarnheimer.
"There is nothing to contradict that," he said on Tuesday.
Since Friday, no new cases of gastroenteritis have been reported to the infection control, and the danger seems to have passed.
"Nothing We Could Have Done"
This is a relief, according to Böda Sand's CEO Anna Barkevall.
"It's good that it's not bacteria. Since it's a virus already present in the community and carried by people, there was nothing we could have done to prevent this at the campsite," she told Ölandsbladet.
The rotavirus cannot be detected in pool water, which may explain why all water samples have looked good, and no bacteria have been found.
Despite this, the campsite has taken several precautionary measures in recent days, such as increased cleaning, placing hand sanitizers, and raising the chlorination of the water.
In addition, guests are urged to maintain hygiene and not swim if they are sick.
Guests are also encouraged to report if they have fallen ill, which according to Barkevall, "a handful" have done.
