Attempted Murders of Two Mothers Linked to Gang Violence in Akalla

A mother of a notorious gang member was shot dead in October last year. Another mother of a gang member was also targeted for murder, according to police investigations. The surviving mother recounts seeing a man with a folder at her door on the day in question. Now, three individuals have been charged with murder and attempted murder.

It was on an evening in late October last year that police were alerted to a woman in her 60s found dead in an apartment in Akalla. The woman was the mother of a well-known gang member in the area. Her son, in his 20s, had also been detained and charged—but acquitted—for the murder of a 28-year-old man, who was chased through Husby and shot dead in the square in May 2021. The murder was part of a split between older and younger criminals within the Husby network.

Both Mothers Under Threat

The accused include two men in their 50s and 40s and a woman in her 30s. Expressen previously reported on those detained in the case. They are also charged with attempted murder of another woman, also the mother of a gang member. Her son has played a leading role in the network criminal environment in Husby for many years. The mother targeted for attempted murder testifies that a man rang her doorbell intending to shoot and kill her. According to investigation interviews, there was a "shared threat" against both mothers.

Outside the Door: Man with a Folder

The surviving mother recounts in interviews that someone rang the doorbell once on the day in question. The person said nothing, and there was only one ring. She did not open the door. When she looked out the window towards the walkway, she saw a casually dressed man "in his 30s" at the door with a folder in hand. The woman states in interviews that he kept his right hand hidden under the folder held in his left hand. Fearing for her safety, she did not open the door, which may have saved her life. The woman also had a police lock on the door. Later, she saw the man leave the premises.

Warned by Her Son

Her gang-affiliated son had been registered at her address, and therefore the police regularly visited to look for him. The son reportedly said that "there is only one person who wants to kill him" and that he wanted her to move from the apartment. He also mentioned that if they couldn't get to him, they might target his mother. She also heard that the murdered woman was her son's best friend's mother.
