Armand Duplantis Postpones Dream Wedding with Desiré Inglander
The plan was to marry this year. However, Armand Duplantis and Desiré Inglander have had to postpone their dream wedding. "It was just too tight," says the pole vault star.
It has been eight months since Armand Duplantis proposed to his girlfriend Desiré Inglander on a beach in New York during a Vogue magazine photoshoot.
"I'm still in shock. I'm a real control freak, it's almost impossible to surprise me," said a surprised Inglander after she said yes.
When Expressen met Armand Duplantis at the Athletics Gala last winter, the 25-year-old revealed that the couple planned to have two wedding celebrations. First in Europe and then in the USA.
"My brother had a wedding with 350 guests. I don't want that, I like the Swedish style and want to celebrate with my close ones," explained Mondo.
According to American tradition, a newly engaged couple should marry within a year. This was also the plan for Duplantis and Inglander, despite a packed competition schedule.
"It's very difficult. We are still trying to plan it around the season. At the same time, we want the best wedding we can imagine," said Armand Duplantis during the Athletics Gala.
Postponing the Wedding: "It Just Didn't Work"
But when Expressen meets the pole vault star at the beginning of summer, he confirms that there will be no dream wedding this year.
"The latest I can say is that we will get married next year. That's what I can say right now," says Duplantis.
At the same time, the world record holder admits he would have preferred to walk down the aisle this year.
"It would have been nice, but it was just too tight. There was too much happening right now—and too much to plan. I wanted to do it, but it just didn't work out so well. Next year will be just as good."
Better to wait and do it really well?
"That's exactly how we've thought. To wait and do it just the way we want."
Armand Duplantis competes on home soil on Sunday when the Bauhaus Gala takes place at Stockholm Stadium.
