Sweden is experiencing an unusually cold weekend with Arctic air bringing chilly temperatures and rain. However, meteorologist Per Holmberg predicts a potential return of summer warmth next week, especially in southern regions, with temperatures possibly reaching 20 to 25 degrees Celsius.

Arctic Chill Hits Sweden, But Summer Heat May Return Soon
Arctic Chill Hits Sweden, But Summer Heat May Return Soon
Rain, cold, and wind dominate the weekend's weather. However, summer might make a comeback—at least in parts of the country.
– It's not impossible for temperatures to reach 20 to 25 degrees, says Per Holmberg, meteorologist at Stormgeo.
It's significantly colder than usual in many parts of the country this weekend.
– It's much colder than it usually is this time of year. In the central parts of the country, it's between four and six degrees colder than normal, says Per Holmberg, meteorologist at Stormgeo.
The autumnal feel in the air is due to chilly Arctic air moving into the country.
– Polar air has descended over Sweden with northern winds, leading to a period of colder and rather unstable weather ahead, with low pressure and quite a few showers.
In large parts of Norrland, temperatures are as low as around 10 degrees this weekend. But even in central and southern Sweden, it's cold for the season.
Rainy and Windy
Along with the colder air, we will also experience a few days of heavy showers in eastern Svealand and on Gotland.
– There may also be thunderstorms. On Gotland, it will be quite windy.
On Saturday, a few hours of dry weather are expected in the area, but by evening, a new low-pressure system will bring more rain.
On Sunday, showers are expected to continue dominating central and northern Sweden. Even Skåne and Blekinge may see rain.
Summer Heat Could Return
But from the middle of next week, there could be a change, as the polar air is replaced by milder temperatures from France and Spain, according to Per Holmberg.
– Summer temperatures could return, mainly in southern Sweden and Götaland. It's not impossible for temperatures to reach 20 to 25 degrees. If it's sunny, it could get quite warm.
