Anton Eriksson's Home at Risk of Flooding: 'Massive Water Volumes'
Anton Eriksson's house stands on the brink of being swept away by rising waters, forcing him and his family to evacuate their home in Ångermanland.
"I haven't slept all night, just worried about the place," he says.
Anton Eriksson lives with his wife and two children near Offersjön in Sollefteå municipality. A small stream runs through their property, but after the weekend's rain chaos in Västernorrland, it now threatens to take the entire house with it.
"They released massive amounts of water from the dam above over the past day, causing our stream to expand by ten meters," says Anton Eriksson.
'It Will Collapse'
Already on Sunday, an outbuilding was damaged, and a bridge over the stream collapsed as the water rose. By Monday, it was clear that the main house was also at risk, prompting Anton Eriksson to alert the emergency services.
"The enclosed porch won't hold; we can already see it will collapse into the stream. We hope the house itself will survive, but it needs to be checked to ensure it doesn't go too, though that's not expected now," says Anton Eriksson.
When Expressen reaches him, emergency services are working on-site to secure the buildings, and he has just learned that it's not safe to stay in the house overnight.
"It's been insanely stressful; I haven't slept all night, just worried about the place. They must have misjudged the volume in the dams and chose to release terrible amounts," says Anton Eriksson.
He has yet to find a solution for where the family will sleep tonight but says, "things like this always work out."
"But who will pay for this? It will cost millions to restore this property," he says.
