Anna Lindh's Killer Mijailo Mijailovic Granted Special Leave

22 years after the murder of Anna Lindh, Mijailo Mijailovic has been granted special leave, reports Aftonbladet. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service sees no security obstacles.

Mijailo Mijailovic was sentenced to life imprisonment after murdering then Foreign Minister Anna Lindh in 2003.

Now, for the first time, Mijailo Mijailovic has been granted a special leave, known as a 'breathing space leave' by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, writes Aftonbladet.

Aftonbladet has reviewed the authority's decision:

"Mijailo Mijailovic has applied for breathing space leave. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service interprets the application as a request for special leave to mitigate the harmful effects of long-term imprisonment. The Kumla prison has approved his application."

No Security Obstacles

According to the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, there are no security obstacles to such special leave. However, he is not allowed regular leave.

During his time in prison, Mijailo Mijailovic was convicted of aggravated assault after attacking a fellow inmate with a screwdriver.

He has been held in several different prisons, including Kumla and Tidaholm, and has also applied to serve his sentence in Serbia, where he feels a stronger connection. However, the Swedish Prison and Probation Service denied the application.
