At around 11:30 AM on Saturday, police were alerted to an assault in a residential area in Harmånger, Nordanstig.

A female employee was attacked with a sharp object by a man at the scene.

The exact reason for the ambulance being called to the address is initially unknown. The region's Deputy Health and Medical Director, Susanna Björklund, told TT that the ambulance had responded to a priority 3 call, a lower priority alert.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor informed Sveriges Radio Ekot that the ambulance was called to assist the now murder-suspected man.

Reports: Baseball Bat Attack

Just days before the murder, the now-detained man allegedly tried to hit the woman's colleagues with a baseball bat, according to SVT Gävleborg.

The attack was thwarted thanks to one of the ambulance staff's martial arts skills, according to the channel.

Police were then called, writes SVT.

– The duty prosecutor has no information about this, says Anja Steiber at the Prosecutor's Office press service.

Colleague's Words

The woman attacked on Saturday was taken to the hospital but died from her injuries.

"Lost a fantastic colleague at work today! We did everything we could, but it wasn't enough... my backpack is full now," writes one of her coworkers on Facebook.

"Share this, it's so damn important for me and my colleagues and the whole society we live in! We are the first line, often long before the police, and we take the hit first, without defense equipment and help," the colleague continues:

"Rest in peace, friend!"

Police are on-site in Harmånger on Sunday.

Partly to knock on doors and gather more information, partly to work on creating a sense of security and addressing any questions from residents.

Neighbor: He Called Himself

A neighbor of the suspected murderer previously recounted the police operation to Expressen.

– My little 12-year-old girl, who was out with the dog, saw how the ambulance woman came out bleeding. I know the guy who did this. As we understand it, he himself called for an ambulance because he was in such bad shape.

Others who witnessed the assault told the neighbor that the man attacked the paramedic with a knife.

– There were several witnesses standing outside the door when the injured woman ran out. She threw herself out of the apartment when he had stabbed her. The guy stood with two knives in his hands. People shouted at him, and then he went back into the apartment again.

The suspected perpetrator, a man in his 20s, was arrested in a residence at the scene. He was later detained on probable cause suspected of murder.
