Ali Hassan Zada's Sentence Reduced for Assaulting Elderly Woman

Ali Hassan Zada, 40, was convicted of raping an elderly woman at a care home. The Court of Appeal has now reduced his sentence. The compensation to the woman has also been lowered.

Ali Hassan Zada was alone in the ward at the Värmland care home on the night in question in February.

The following morning, the woman reported to both staff and relatives that she had been raped by the 40-year-old.

According to witnesses, the woman, aged between 80 and 90, was anxious, frightened, and in poor condition after the assault.

Colleague: “Incredibly Shocked”

Police found technical evidence in the room and quickly arrested Hassan Zada.

Colleagues previously told Expressen that they were informed a couple of months after the assault.

“I am incredibly shocked and appalled,” said one of them.

In Värmland District Court, Hassan Zada was sentenced to six years in prison for aggravated rape and was ordered to pay 320,000 kronor to the woman.

The 40-year-old denied the crime and appealed to the Court of Appeal.

The higher court also concluded that it was beyond reasonable doubt that the 40-year-old raped the resident and agreed that he showed “particular ruthlessness” towards the woman, who was in a very vulnerable position.

Court of Appeal: “Slightly Lower” Sentence Value

However, the Court of Appeal believes the sentence value is “slightly lower” than what the district court determined and changed the sentence to five years and six months in prison.

The court also felt that the district court's decision on compensation was too high. Instead, the 40-year-old is to pay 270,000 kronor to the woman.

Hassan Zada received Swedish citizenship just over a month before the assault and therefore cannot be deported.
