152 Apartments to be Demolished in Söderhamn Due to Low Demand

Are you interested in living in one of Faxeholmen's 152 apartments in Söderhamn municipality? If so, you are practically alone. These apartments are set to be demolished due to low demand, reports P4 Gävleborg.

The demolition has already begun, and according to Lars Stål (M), chairman of Faxeholmen, the situation is unfortunate but expected.

– People no longer want to live here. They prefer more villa-like accommodations, he tells P4.

Several Housing Companies Affected

According to the channel, several housing companies in Gävleborg face the same issue. Housing was built during the large refugee wave in 2015, but the demand has since decreased.

The vacancy rate in Söderhamn municipality is 13%, a high figure compared to the national average of 2%.

Faxeholmen is now considering new strategies to attract new residents.

– We are looking into building 'tiny houses' to give the feeling of having one's own home, says Lars Stål.
