15-Year-Old Killed in Explosion in Östberga

A 15-year-old boy died in the explosion in Östberga, Stockholm, on August 22, reports Mitt i.

A car exploded in a residential area in Östberga, southern Stockholm, on the evening of August 22. A deceased person was found near the vehicle.

Prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand now tells Mitt i that the deceased was a 15-year-old boy from Stockholm.

"We have not committed to a hypothesis, but the investigation suggests that the deceased 15-year-old was at the scene to detonate an explosive device, which for some reason exploded prematurely," says prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand to Mitt i.

The suspicion is that the 15-year-old was recruited by a criminal network.

"We suspect he was recruited by a criminal network through a middle school and a youth sports team," says prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand to the newspaper.

A 15-year-old boy has been detained since Sunday, suspected of incitement to gross public endangerment and serious offenses against the law on flammable and explosive goods. Another 15-year-old is in custody, suspected of gross public endangerment and serious offenses against the law on flammable and explosive goods, writes Mitt i.

"We suspect that those involved have been recruited in a very calculated manner, comparable to grooming. It is important for the public to know, and we particularly want everyone who has and works with children to be aware that this is happening," says prosecutor Lukas Tigerstrand to the newspaper.
