Marek Rokosz Sentenced to 18 Years for Murder and Arson in Hindås

During a Christmas celebration in Hindås, a 34-year-old man knocked on the door to collect a debt. Instead, he was shot dead by Marek Rokosz, 42, who, along with an accomplice, burned the body in a car. Rokosz has now been sentenced to 18 years in prison and deportation.

The 34-year-old sought to recover money after a car repair and went to a residence in Hindås late on Christmas Eve. Armed with baseball bats to collect the debt, they knocked on the door but were shot at the entrance. The 34-year-old was shot in the head and died.

Several shots were also fired at his friend, who fled the scene.

Shooter Sentenced

The shooter is 42-year-old Marek Rokosz, as confirmed by the Gothenburg District Court.

He is a Polish citizen. In 2008, he was sentenced to prison for a "very serious" violent crime in his home country. This was revealed in a personal investigation conducted when he was convicted of violating the knife law in Sweden in 2023, having carried two knives at a commuter train station in Stockholm.

During his years in Sweden, Rokosz has worked in the construction industry.

Burning the Victim

After the murder, Rokosz, along with another man, loaded the 34-year-old's body into a car and drove to a bathing area in Bollebygd. There, they set the car on fire, prompting a police alert. A few days later, Rokosz was arrested in Stockholm. The other man is sentenced to three years in prison for grave desecration and is also deported.

Another man is convicted of gross protection of a criminal, having helped clean up evidence. He is acquitted of aiding and abetting grave desecration.

Rokosz has previously admitted parts of the events on the night of the murder but denied the crime. He claimed in interrogations that he accidentally fired the fatal shot. He has not explained how several shots were then fired at the murdered man's friend.

The district court considers it "obvious" that Rokosz committed the murder with intent, as he did not alert the police after the shots and showed no remorse in connection with the murder.

Rokosz is also convicted of grave desecration. He is acquitted of attempted murder.
